INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT

Improve your IPM strategy with Diatomaceous Earth

SUPERCHARGE YOUR IPM

A house is only as strong as its foundation. Similarly, an IPM plan is only as strong as the foundation it’s built upon…
the floor of the poultry house. Think about it. Your litter is the single largest mass of organic matter in the entire barn; of course
insects are attracted to it!

Whether the issue is crawling insects or flies, maintaining a dry environment is crucial. The litter is a moist and often warm
organic mass, ideal for insects, flies and pathogens. Apply Diatomaceous Earth based products early, and reapply regularly to keep the environment dry.

The results are cumulative with each successive application. It continues to work as long as it is present in your barns. DE helps to condition your litter by drying it out and keeping it friable. Diatomaceous Earth based litter amendments are less expensive to apply than boric acid. Activated Barn Fresh, a DE-based acidifier, conditions your litter with every application.

            Activated Barn Fresh:

·        can be applied up to five days prior to chick placement

·        is easier on skin, clothing, and equipment than traditional acidifiers

·        improves litter condition as diatomaceous earth accumulates

·     works even better when litter is windrowed

·      can be applied with birds in the barn

·      is listed with OMRI, so is effective for both organic and conventional broiler flocks

Poultyr House Operations

DE helps poultry houses become more resistant to pests that carry pathogens and parasites.

Activated Barn Fresh® is the only acidifier that conditions litter with Citric Acid and Diatomaceous Earth (DE).

While most acidifiers burn off within a couple of days, the DE in Activated Barn Fresh® never stops working.

Conditioning litter with Diatomaceous Earth based products such as Last Crawl, Activated Barn Fresh and Stall DRY improves Prevention and Cultural/Sanitation controls.

More and more producers are using DE-based products to improve their IPM plan.
