Why is FRESH COOP so important for Backyard Chicken keeping?

Why is using diatomaceous earth important for backyard chickens?

When chickens excrete, the resulting manure is rich in nitrogen, especially the chicken’s equivalent of urine – uric acid. When the manure then becomes wet, the nitrogen decomposes and produces a gas called ammonia, which gives off a pungent smell.

Providing Ammonia, Odor and Moisture Control: How Does It Work?

FRESH COOP minimizes the conversion of ammonium to ammonia by acidifying the poultry litter, with the help of a proper balance of citric acid and our naturally occurring blend of Diatomaceous Earth and Calcium Montmorillonite.

This acidity will also inhibit the activities of bad bacteria and enzymes that are involved in the formation of ammonia, overall reducing the ammonia production.

What is Citric Acid and Is It Safe for My Chickens?

Citric Acid is an organic acid that is naturally derived from organic plant matter and is safe for your backyard flock.

Why Should I Be Worried About High Ammonia Levels in My Coop?

Ammonia is one of the most dangerous gases in the air. It can irritate an animal’s eyes, lungs, sinuses, mouth, and skin and make them more vulnerable to infection. Humans can also be harmed by high levels of ammonia.

The natural absorption capabilities of our diatomaceous earth blend will help to keep your coop clean and dry!
