Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is a soft, siliceous sedimentary rock containing the fossilized skeletal remains of diatoms. Diatoms are single-celled algae found in oceans and waterways. DE is used as a mineral filler in paints, polishes, stuccos and coatings. DE is lightweight, porous, and durable with many unique properties beneficial as a filler.
DE-BRITETM is not just a filler but improves the overall performance and properties of paint. DE-BRITETM is a “natural grade” (non-calcined) diatomaceous earth from a freshwater source mined in Oregon USA.
The DE-BRITETM deposit contains a variety of fossilized Melosira Species of freshwater diatoms, with a greater number of pores per diatom, and hence greater pore volume.
DE-BRITETM is a multi-functional mineral filler that improves paint and coating performance. DE-BRITETM has a surface area that measures at 76 m2/g. Some diatomaceous earth competitive brands have a surface area as low as 30 m2/g.
DE-BRITETM diatoms are a functional additive with high porosity, increasing paint film permeability. Increased permeability allows the paint vehicle to rapidly volatize the paint to dry quickly and uniformly thus reducing peeling and blistering.
