Where does Red Lake Diatomaceous Earth come from?

Red Lake Earth comes from a natural, fresh water deposit found near Kamloops, British Columbia. This unique deposit of Diatomaceous Earth is naturally enhanced with Calcium Montmorillonite (also known as Calcium Bentonite).


Is Red Lake Earth Food Chemical Codex Grade?

Red Lake Diatomaceous Earth products meets both FOOD CHEMICAL CODEX GRADE and FEED GRADE specifications.


Food Chemical Codex Grade Diatomaceous Earth means that the product meets Food Chemical Codex Grade specifications and can be used as a filtering aid or processing aid in food, but cannot be in the end product for human consumption.


Currently RLE Diatomaceous Earth is only registered as a feed additive for the purpose of an anti-caking agent or pelleting aid in feed, not to exceed 2% of the animal’s total diet.


Is Red Lake Earth Diatomaceous Earth safe for all animals?

Red Lake Diatomaceous Earth is completely safe to be used with all types of animals.

What is the difference between Food Chemical Codex Grade (Food Grade) and Pool Grade Diatomaceous Earth?

The difference between pool grade and food grade diatomaceous earth is in the way that the natural diatomaceous earth is treated.


Pool grade diatomaceous earth is only meant for use as a filtration aid. It is treated at a very high temperature (calcined) and contains a high percentage of crystalline silica.


Food Chemical Codex Grade (Food Grade) diatomaceous earth is treated at a much lower temperature (non-calcined). Food Grade DE products, such as Red Lake Earth, contain a very low percentage of crystalline silica (Red Lake Diatomaceous Earth contains less than 1% crystalline silica) and are therefore not harmful to humans or animals.

Red Lake Earth is available at the better feed and agricultural supply stores throughout the United States.
