Thanks you for visiting our website - here's how we got started - we're proud of our achievements and are excited to share them with you!

Over 20-Years ago we developed a unique minesite. This minesite contains a naturally occurring blend of diatomaceous earth and montmorillonite clay. This

unique clay blend is the foundation of our regular pet litters, flushable litters and agricultural product line.

Our clay naturally neutralizes ammonia, absorbs its own weight in liquid, contains less than 1% free crystalline silica, and is non-toxic and non-corrosive.

ABSORBENT PRODUCTS LTD. produces industrial minerals from 2 mines in British Columbia and processes the material into products you would see on your

store shelf. We produce many different products from cat litter to industrial absorbents to feed additives and binders for the agriculture industry to natural insecticides and other applications as well. We process the materials at our plant

in Kamloops and export them to various countries and other parts of Canada.

Absorbent Products Ltd. has a very high value added ratio since we take the material from its raw state, process it and package it for retail sale. We continue to demonstrate a commitment to advancing and promoting sustainable development in the mining sector.

APL continues to be recognized for its efforts in reclaiming land. In doing so, the company seeks to minimize the amount of disturbed land and to promote environmental stewardship. APL’s 1,000 acre ranch adjacent to its Red Lake mine property north of Kamloops has been used for agricultural operations and in using the company’s natural fertilizer, leonardite, it has been shown that this reclaimed land will yield a much higher productivity level than before it was mined. APL is currently ahead of schedule in completing its mine reclamation work and has reclaimed a substantially greater amount of land than what the company had originally anticipated.

We take great pride in the environmental integrity of our operations and our products. Many of our products are listed for use in organic production by the Organic Material Review Institute. We always seek to reduce our use of resources, whether they are material mined, electricity, natural gas or other resources. We have reduced our use of natural gas and electricity per tonne over the past 5 years and we use about 98% of the material that is transported from the mines to the processing facility.

ABSORBENT PRODUCTS LTD. SELECTED AS ONE OF TOP 25 EXPORTERS IN 2009

Absorbent Products Ltd. (APL) has been selected as one of the Top 25 Exporters in British Columbia and is a one of 3 finalists for the Primary Products and Services Sector Award.

This award is given jointly by the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) and the Ministry of Small Business, Technology and Economic Development. The award is given to reward British Columbia’s most successful and innovative exporters and promote those companies selected as corporate role models in order to stimulate greater involvement in exporting amongst the province’s business community. The awards also help to develop community awareness of exporting to the province’s economic future.

“We are very proud to be selected as one of the Top 25 Exporting Companies in British Columbia. With all the companies in BC to choose from, to be chosen as one of the top 25 exporters is a real honour,” says Peter Aylen, President of Absorbent Products Ltd. “We export our products to Europe, the middle east and throughout the United States.”

On May 4, 2009, APL won the MINING AND SUSTAINABILITY AWARD, presented the Ministry of Energy Mines and Resources and the mining Association of British Columbia. This award is one of the most prestigious awards given in the British Columbia Mining Industry. It seeks to recognize companies, organizations and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to advancing and promoting sustainable development in the mining sector.

ABSORBENT PRODUCTS LTD. awarded Business of the Year and Manufacturer of the Year at the Kamloops Business of Excellence Gala

October 19, 2009, Kamloops Daily News

Peter Aylen of Absorbent Products better be handy with a hammer and saw — after Saturday’s annual Business Excellence Awards, he’s going to need a new trophy case.

“I just might do that,” he laughed when it was suggested he’ll have to get building.

Aylen had just collected two of the most prestigious of the 16 awards handed out at the 24th annual soiree, hosted by the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce and co-sponsored by TD Canada Trust.

Not only was Absorbent Products, which employs about 50 people, named winner of the Manufacturer Award, but it picked up the trophy for Business of the Year.

“This year’s selection was tough,” said Phil Lindsay of Community Futures Thompson Country, sponsor of the Business of the year category. “It was really tough,” he said before announcing Absorbent Products as the winner.

“This really is a great honour,” said Aylen in accepting the award. “We really appreciate this. This is really quite something.”

Nominations were received from Kamloops residents for 213 local businesses among a record total of 329. Three finalists in each of 14 categories were selected by a committee of 40 local business organizations and leaders. Winners were chosen by chamber members who voted online from the list of finalists. Business of the Year Award winner was decided by the chamber’s board of directors from the nominees for the other awards.

Absorbent Products Ltd. Wins BC Mining and Sustainability Award

Vancouver, B.C. – (May 4, 2009) – Absorbent Products Ltd (APL) has won the 2008 Mining and Sustainability Award, presented by the Ministry of Energy Mines and Petroleum Resources and the Mining Association of British Columbia. The award will be presented this evening at Vancouver’s Terminal City Club during the Mining Association of British Columbia’s Gala Award Reception to mark the beginning of BC Mining Week.

The Mining and Sustainability Award is one of the most prestigious awards given in the British Columbia mining industry. It seeks to recognize companies, organizations and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to advancing and promoting sustainable development within the mining sector.

“We are very proud to have received this award. We may be a much smaller company  compared to the previous winners, but we have exhibited exceptional efforts and have met all eight of the evaluation criteria,” says Peter Aylen, president of Absorbent Products. “Safety is a major concern for our company and this is demonstrated by our low Worksafe BC rates and the capital expenditures we have made to improve workplace safety.”

All award nominees are judged against a set of eight criteria including: health and safety measures, relations with other parties (including First Nations), respect for the environment, efficient use of resources, research activities and providing benefits to the local community and the province. Winners are decided by an adjudication committee made up of representatives from government, industry and academia. The winners must also be vetted through an ethics review process to determine that there have not been any unethical actions.

APL has also been recognized for its efforts in reclaiming land. “We take great pride in the environmental integrity of our operations and our products. Many of our products are listed for use in organic production by the Organic Material Review Institute,” says Aylen. “We always seek to reduce our use of resources, whether they are the material mined, electricity, natural gas or other resources. We have reduced our use of both natural gas and electricity over the past five years and we use about 98 per cent of the material that is transported from the mines to the processing facility,” says Aylen.
